1.1. Vocabulary

Since its invention in 1965, the Operational Amplifier was mostly used to compute arithmetic operations (sum, subtraction, integration, derivation, …), which motivates its name.

This name is often abbreviated with “Op-Amp” or simply “op-amp” as throughout this resource.

Another common name is: “Linear Integrated Amplifier”
