LA CHAÎNE NUMÉRIQUE : De l'idée à la réalisation

Slide 61

It is of course interesting to compare one-part and mass machining. The mass of the rough part goes from 715 to 181 grams which means you save 75% of material.

There is little change in the mass of the part, 117 compared to 107, which is normal because its functionality is exactly the same.

The mass of metal chips has fallen sharply from 604 g to 64 g, a reduction of nearly 90%.

Machining time decreases from 19 minutes to 17.5 minutes.

Therefore mass machining is a way to save material and machining time, thus reduce production costs.

However more time is necessary for initial study and development which will mean higher costs for the company. The choice of machining will therefore depend on the number of parts in the series.

On the last slide we can see the low-energy consumption vehicle for which this new part was designed and developed in action.
