LA CHAÎNE NUMÉRIQUE : De l'idée à la réalisation

Introduction

The numerical chain[1] is the name given to all the functions which are available when using computer-aided design software, known as CAD;

The objectives of this presentation are:

  • to expose what modern CADs are capable of,

  • to show the links they manage, between all the different steps necessary to make a part,

  • to point out the advantages this type of software offers to industrial users.

In particular, we will study how we can, from the design step of a part with particular functions, go on to make a digital model, and then, using the same software, carry out all the operations necessary to make the final part.

In addition we will present two types of manufacture:

  • One-part machining,

  • Multiple or mass machining using foundry blanks.

This presentation will also include the digital simulations which are possible using CAD software in order to validate the different steps in development and thus reduce the setting-up steps on the machines.

There is also a short explanation of rapid prototyping and its advantages.
